The Acoustic Music Archive

Bob Dylan wrote 'Mama, You Been On My Mind' in 1964, at the same time as the songs that appeared on that year's 'Another Side of Bob Dylan' album.  For whatever reason,  'Mama, You Been On My Mind'  was not included on that album, and the song was not included on that album, and in fact Dylan himself did not release it until many years later.  However, it was covered by Joan Baez, (her version is 'Daddy, You Been On My Mind'), Rod Stewart, George Harrison, Jeff Buckley, and others.  The song is apparently about Dylan's break up from his girlfriend, Suze Rotolo - the lady who appears with him on the cover of the Freewheelin' album.
