Too Quiet - Chords, Lyrics and Origins
Origins
This version of 'Too Quiet' is performed by Webster-Fergusson, a duo that I, Peter Webster, am one half of. 'Too Quiet' is an original song of mine. It took a long time to write, but was worth the effort. The song focuses on a relationship that is almost - but not quite - over. The question is whether the protagonists can salvage something worthwhile from what could otherwise turn out to be a wreck. My idea was to tell their story through a third party (a little like the Beatles' 'She Loves You').

Lyrics
She says she's hurt;
Your name is dirt.
She fixed me with an icy stare;
I'm telling you, you should have seen her glare.
But as I was turning round to leave
She called my name and held on to my sleeve.
And she said:
"Tell him that I still care,
Tell him I'm at home where
It's too quiet now he's gone."
Let me tell you
A tale that's true.
Your ma and I,
The hows and whys.
We were hot tempered – fire and flame,
Too proud, too stubborn, too much the same.
I can still
See her gold ring glinting,
Don't know what I was thinking
When I let her walk away.
Sup up your drink,
Don't wait, don't think.
Son, take a look in my direction
And tell me what it is you see:
An old man whose hair is turning grey,
A mangy single dog that's had its day.
I'll tell you
Freedom's overrated,
And your taste for it's soon sated,
So go home where you belong.
You run as
Fast as you can get there,
And tell her that you still care.
It's too quiet here for you.
Too quiet here for you.
Too quiet.
